ZipGood is available in multiple interface languages, including English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Portuguese. The interface language can be changed in Settings → General → Language.
Archive formats
What archive formats can ZipGood create?
ZipGood can create archives in 14 output formats: 7z, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, LZIP, Brotli, Zstandard, LRZIP, WIM, AAR, DMG and ISO.
What archive formats can ZipGood open?
ZipGood can open and extract RAR, 7z, ZIP, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, LZMA, LZIP, Brotli, Zstandard, LZ4, LRZIP, WIM, CAB, ISO and DMG archives.
Can ZipGood open RAR files?
Yes. ZipGood can open and extract RAR archives on macOS, including password-protected RAR archives and split RAR volumes such as .part1.rar.
Can ZipGood create RAR files?
No. RAR is an extraction-only format in ZipGood. To create a compressed archive, use 7z or ZIP, both of which ZipGood can create with AES-256 encryption.
Can ZipGood create 7z files?
Yes. ZipGood can create 7z archives with a configurable compression method, optional solid archives, AES-256 encryption, optional header encryption and split volumes.
Can ZipGood extract .z01 files?
Yes. ZipGood joins split archives automatically. For a split ZIP archive, open the .z01 volume and ZipGood handles the remaining parts.
Can ZipGood open ISO and DMG files?
Yes. ZipGood can open and extract both ISO and DMG disk images, and can also create new ISO and DMG images.
Can ZipGood extract encrypted .lrz files?
No. Encrypted LRZIP archives can only be decrypted by the lrzip command-line tool. Unencrypted .lrz files work normally in ZipGood.
Encryption and passwords
What encryption does ZipGood use?
ZipGood uses AES-256 encryption for 7z archives and for ZIP archives, and can also create encrypted DMG disk images.
Can ZipGood password-protect an archive?
Yes. ZipGood can create AES-256 encrypted 7z and ZIP archives, and encrypted DMG disk images. You can also enable header encryption for 7z archives to hide the file list itself.
Where does ZipGood store passwords?
Passwords are stored exclusively in the macOS Keychain, encrypted by the system. They are never written to plain files and never transmitted.
What is the password book?
The password book is a list of passwords, stored in the macOS Keychain, that ZipGood tries silently when opening an encrypted archive. Only if none of them work does it prompt you to type a password.
Finder integration
Does ZipGood work with the Finder?
Yes. ZipGood adds compress, encrypt and extract commands to the macOS Finder context menu, so archive actions can run without opening the app.
How do I enable the ZipGood Finder extension?
Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, scroll to Extensions → Finder and enable ZipGood. The commands then appear when you right-click a file or folder in the Finder.
Do Finder quick actions open the ZipGood window?
No. Quick actions run headless. Progress is shown on the Dock icon and a sound plays when the task finishes.
Using ZipGood
How do I compress files with ZipGood?
Drag files or folders onto the ZipGood window or its Dock icon, choose an output format, configure the per-format options, and click Compress. ZipGood remembers your options per format.
How do I extract an archive?
Double-click the archive, drop it on the ZipGood Dock icon, or right-click it in the Finder and choose a ZipGood extract command. If the archive is encrypted, ZipGood tries your saved passwords first.
What happens if the output archive already exists?
ZipGood appends a number instead of overwriting your data, so you get "Archive 2.zip", "Archive 3.zip" and so on.
What happens when extracted files have the same name?
ZipGood follows your chosen policy on name conflicts: rename, overwrite or skip.
Where do extracted files go?
Next to the archive by default. macOS sandboxing may ask you to grant access to the folder once; ZipGood remembers your choice securely.
Can ZipGood split a large archive into parts?
Yes. ZipGood can create split volumes for 7z and ZIP archives, and joins split archives automatically when extracting.
Privacy and security
Does ZipGood collect data?
No. ZipGood collects no personal data. The product description states that the app has no analytics, no tracking and no network access, and the Mac App Store privacy disclosure is listed as "Data Not Collected."
Does ZipGood work offline?
Yes. ZipGood does not require network access for archive processing. The app works fully offline.
Do my files leave my Mac?
No. Archives and the files inside them are processed locally by the compression engines bundled inside the app. No file content is uploaded, shared or inspected.
Does ZipGood require an account?
No. ZipGood has no accounts and no sign-in. You download it from the Mac App Store and start using it.
Is ZipGood sandboxed?
Yes. ZipGood is sandboxed and hardened. Folder access is granted by you, folder by folder, and remembered as a security-scoped bookmark.
