ZipGood Troubleshooting
Short answer: Most ZipGood issues fall into a few categories: the Finder extension is not enabled, a split archive is missing a volume, an encrypted archive needs a password, or macOS has not yet granted folder access.
The Finder commands are missing
- Check System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Finder and make sure ZipGood is enabled.
- Check Settings → Finder Extension in ZipGood to see whether the commands are set to the top level or a submenu.
- Restart the Finder if the extension was just enabled.
A split archive will not extract
- Make sure every volume is present in the same folder.
- Do not rename the volumes — names must keep their original numbering.
- Open the first volume only (.7z.001, .z01 or .part1.rar).
- If a volume is missing or corrupt, re-download that part.
The archive is encrypted
- ZipGood tries your password book and default password silently first.
- If it still asks, the password is not in your Keychain — type it manually.
- Encrypted .lrz archives are not supported; use the lrzip command-line tool.
The app created "Archive 2.zip" instead of overwriting
This is expected behaviour. When the output file already exists, ZipGood appends a number instead of overwriting your data.
macOS asks for folder access
macOS sandboxing asks you to grant access to a destination folder the first time ZipGood writes to it. Approve the prompt once and ZipGood remembers the permission securely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the app creating "Archive 2.zip"?
When the output file already exists, ZipGood automatically appends a number instead of overwriting your data.
Why can I not see the ZipGood commands in the Finder?
Check that the Finder extension is enabled in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Finder, and confirm the menu placement setting in ZipGood under Settings → Finder Extension.
Why does my split archive say it is incomplete?
A volume is probably missing, renamed, or from a different download. Keep all parts together with their original names and open the first volume.
